The ‘Hackney Heroine’ accuses the Lib Dems of ‘underhand racism’ and quits presidential race

Community activist, Pauline Pierce, commonly known as the ‘Hackney Heroine’ has quit the Liberal Democrat presidential race accusing the party of ‘underhand racism’ and tokenism.

Ms Pierce had gained celebrity status after being videoed shouting at looters in her native London Borough during the 2011 London riots.

In the video she attacked the beleaguered coalition party of holding ‘neanderthal views on diversity’ and claimed her criminal past was derided by party insiders.

She said: ‘I’ve been ridiculed for my past as an ex-convict, something that I was very open about from the day I was discovered in the media as the lady who ranted in the riots in 2011.’

Here is the video that made Ms Pierce famous:

A Lib Dem spokesperson said : ‘We are upset that Pauline feels she has been subjected to discrimination and prejudice, as this behaviour is the opposite of the values of equality and respect we embrace and pride ourselves on as a party.’
