The office of the future may have no seats or desks at all. : TreeHugger

Everybody knows that sitting kills, right? So RAAAF and Barbara Visser have proposed The End of Sitting, noting that “In our society almost the entirety of our surroundings have been designed for sitting, while evidence from medical research suggests that too much sitting has adverse health effects.”

Last year we showed the model and the video; now they have built the real thing in Amsterdam. “The End of Sitting marks the beginning of an experimental trial phase, exploring the possibilities of radical change for the working environment.”

It’s an interesting project. As I have noted, your office is where you are; with technology no longer tying us down to one spot, you can stand, sit, move or lie down while you work, wherever you want to work. Our offices have changed so much; I wrote two years ago that “the notebook is the new desktop and the phone is the new notebook and the cloud is the new file cabinet and everything is just smaller, lighter more portable and easier to use.” Since then it has just got more so.

These guys are on to something. More at RAAAF
