Top 10 tablets for 2016: Surface Pro 5, iPad Air 3 and Acer Aspire Switch 12 S

2016’s big smartphone releases are thus far mostly under wraps, but there are already plenty of officially confirmed tablets and 2-in-1s set to launch in the coming months, many of them shown to the world for the first time at the recent CES 2016 in Las Vegas. At the same time, the anticipated follow-ups to major devices like the Surface Pro 4 and iPad Pro are still grinding around in the rumour mill.

For now, here are 10 of the most exciting tablet devices we can expect to see in 2016. Some have hit the shelves already, some are many months away, but all are worthy of attention.

10. Toshiba dynaPad

Toshiba dynaPad

Toshiba’s dynaPad is one of the more modestly specced devices on this list. Most productivity tablets run an Intel Core M processor, but the dynaPad makes do with a Cherry Trail Intel Atom x5-Z8300, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Still, there’s plenty to make up for this. Weighing 569g in tablet mode, it’s by far the lightest 12in Windows slate money can buy, and at 6.9mm thick it’s also the slimmest – at least until the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S launches.

The dynaPad also places a distinct focus on handwriting and drawing, which sets it apart from other 2-in-1s that are primarily concerned with replacing laptops.

It’s been designed to mimic the B5 paper size and comes with a Wacom Active Electro-Static TruPen stylus in the box, allowing users to make quick handwritten notes or sketch with the pen’s sensitivity to 2,048 different levels of pressure. That’s twice the sensitivity of Microsoft’s latest Surface Pen.
