Two police hospitalised after M6 chase ends in 90mph collision

Two police officers have been taken to hospital after a suspect they were chasing ploughed into the side of one of their patrol cars.

Police had been tracking the MG ZR after they spotted it driving erratically on the M6 Toll through Staffordshire at around 10am this morning.

Central Motorway Police Group officers set up a rolling road block to cause the driver to slow down but after attempting to stop the car between junctions T7 and T8, the driver accelerated – smashing into a marked police BMW at 90mph.

Two officers and the car’s 23-year-old driver were taken to hospital.

Neither officer was seriously hurt, while the car’s driver injured his leg.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, as well as for failing to stop.
