Vodafone 4G rollout heads to five more cities

Vodafone has promised that its 4G network will cover five more cities over the summer, allowing some one million more customers to benefit from its fastest service.

Vodafone said households and businesses in Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Reading and Southampton will all be covered by its 4G services.

This latest rollout means its 4G coverage now extends to 239 cities and towns.

Vodafone chief technology officer Fergal Kelly said: “Mobile connectivity plays a vital role in keeping communities in touch and helping to support the local economy.

“Our network improvements will ensure thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of consumers in the south of England will have a better opportunity to take part in the growing smartphone revolution.”

Last February, Vodafone announced it had 500,000 customers on its 4G network as well as businesses including Fulham Football Club and NearDesk as it continues to try to close the gap to rival EE.

The rollout push comes as EE continues to boost its coverage too, after it announced 15 more locations would go live on Friday, including Gateshead, Birkenhead, East Grinstead and Leighton Buzzard.
