What’s wrong with being a white, middle-aged man? – Telegraph Blogs

Yesterday’s Man – white and middle-aged (Photo: BBC)

I write as one myself – so I’m biased. But the reason for today’s Cabinet reshuffle – that lots of white, middle-aged men had to get the chop – has been widely accepted as logical.

By all means sack people because they’re useless. But because they happen to be born in a certain year, with a certain colour of skin and a particular chromosome? It doesn’t make any logical sense at all.

I’m not going to start banging on about how racist it is. As a white, middle-aged man, born in Britain in 1971 – and, what’s worse, middle-class, too – I have had more than my fair share of good luck in the global lottery.

But that still doesn’t justify this crazy new reason for sacking people.
