Woman beheaded in London 'machete' attack named by police

An elderly woman who was beheaded in a ‘machete’ attack has been named by police.

Palmira Silva, 82, was pronounced dead at the scene in Nightingale Road, Edmonton, earlier today.

Detectives believe she is of Italian descent.

Police were initially called just after 1pm to reports of a man armed with a knife.

It has been widely reported that eye witnesses saw a man walking around the area with a machete.

Armed officers responded and found the woman collapsed in a garden area.

Her next of kin have now been informed.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
